🇮🇳 Indian Bank Employees Announce Nationwide Strike Against Privatization

November 24: Unions plan coordinated protests across the country amid concerns over job security and public accountability

Thanjavur / Chennai – November 3, 2025.
The Indian Bank Employees Union has announced strong opposition to the government’s plan to privatize public sector banks.
General Secretary S. Unnavirathap Porattam stated that a nationwide strike will take place on November 24, with participation expected from employees across all Indian states.

According to the union, more than 40 regional associations and the All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) will join the action. Senior officials and retired staff members have also expressed solidarity with the protest.

> “The government’s repeated attempts to privatize public sector banks have created deep unrest throughout the industry.
We will not allow public interests and job security to be sacrificed,”
the union declared in its official statement.

The protest campaign will begin with regional demonstrations on November 5, culminating in a full-scale strike on November 24, during which bank branches across the nation are expected to close.

The AIBEA has urged the government not to disclose the names of the targeted banks and to withdraw the privatization initiative altogether.
Union leaders emphasized that the strike represents not only a fight for job protection but also a defense of public accountability in India’s financial system.
