💧 New Water Pipeline for Tiruvannamalai

💧 New Water Pipeline for Tiruvannamalai

Sustainable Relief for Residents

English Version

A major step toward water security in Tiruvannamalai is nearing completion.
Under the Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme 2023–24, a new 24-kilometre water pipeline is being laid between Sathanur Dam and Tiruvannamalai town, at a cost of ₹55.49 crore.

The new system is designed to supply 135 litres per person per day (LPCD) — ensuring a stable and hygienic water supply for thousands of households in the temple town.

Officials report that only 550 metres of pipeline remain to be laid, mainly along Thandrampattu Road. Once finished, the project will help:

prevent frequent pipe bursts and water loss,

reduce contamination during transit,

and ensure regular water delivery to the farthest neighbourhoods.

Old pipelines, placed in the centre of main roads, are being replaced by more durable ones installed at the road’s edge to avoid vehicle damage.

Tiruvannamalai currently generates about 18 million litres per day (MLD) of water against a demand of 22 MLD, serving more than 31,000 consumers. The new pipeline is expected to bridge this gap and strengthen the town’s water resilience.
